Stand Tall

Years ago we

were elated by a challenge.

Yesterday we shied away

from conflict,

we zipped our mouths and

bowed our heads in

begrudging complacency.

But today–

oh, today!–

we make time for ourselves.

Our spines remain

straight and strong.

We know not what

awaits us tomorrow.

The decisions we face

are yet unseen,

but the best–

of us, our strength

and determination

and love,

of the world and

all of the potential

she holds–

is only just a few

hours away.

So rest your eyes

and sturdy spines

and sleep well.

For tomorrow

we must once again

stand tall.
