Change in the Air

As the seasons change,

a New Yorker feels nothing

expect for the twenty-four-

hour transition from a rainy

spring to a squelching summer.

It takes a lot to shake

the bones of a Big Apple resident.

They need dramatic gestures,

not subtle shifts.

Perhaps nature knows them

better than even they realize.

In the greater scheme, though,

just one over-sized gesture is due.

They don’t need five days

of heat wave after heat wave

to know their sneeze-sized spring

is over.

I suppose you could

say that’s a testament to

their perception skills–

they notice more than they let on.
