Hometown Blues

My hometown is a

white hometown with

Hispanic and Russian flavors.

We are a people

of southern hospitality

and charm,

tipping our head with a low,

But there are those,

those no better than

you or me, who

despise these foreign flavors.

These people of grey wool and musket balls

wave their red, white, and blue

in a different way—

a way set in the disputes of the past.

This supremacy,

so painful to witness,

is still so prevalent

in our patchwork world.

Tears flow for those oppressed,

my brothers and sisters,

who deserve love

as we all deserve love.
