I’m constantly quoting—

quoting books and movies

songs on and off the radio.

I type up my quote for the world

to see.

But will anyone ever quote me?

I’m not much,

just a blue-eyed girl with crazy hair

and faded jeans.

I’ve studied here, I’ve studied there.

I can introduce myself in German,

comment on the weather in French,

say “I love you” in Spanish.

I have a sharp ear and a visual memory.

I can ramble on and on about Disney movies,

Harry Potter, and Kurt Vonnegut.

I can serenade you with songs

from musicals and Keith Urban,

Adele and Mumford & Sons.

I’ve performed on stage—and off.

My work has been show-cased,

and so has my talent.

I’ve laughed over love, and I’ve cried

over it more.

I grow every day, yet

there are times I feel

no bigger than this ____.

I gaze at the stars and look

to the moon.

But I’m afraid of the dark.

I’ve made mistakes,

I screw up every day,

and I have no regrets.

I’m not afraid to die.

I’m afraid I won’t live

The rain is my theme song

and my playground.

I walk in others shadows,

and I soar in the sun.

I love you more than this body

can stand,

And if no one ever repeats my lines—

if I never see my words

in quotation marks—

That’d be enough for me.
